Audi is getting closer to introducing its smallest crossover ever in the form of the new Q1 . Expected to make its debut in 2016 , it would seem that Q1 will follow the trend set by the Q3 and draw inspirations from the brand's Q5 Mid-sizer . Proportionally , it doesn't look dramatically smaller than Q3 . The front overhang is similarly sized , although  there's a smallerrear overhang and a more aggressive rake to the rear window . The front windshield looks more aggressive too , and overall , the Q1 looks to sit lower to the ground than its big brother .

The Audi Q1 is designed to give Audi a lead in the fast growing small-crossover segment :" It is part of a broad Q-model strategy , " says CEO Rupert Stadler . Perhaps of more significance of the Q brand is what the Q1's design means for the future of Q models . The crosslane coupe's design was supposed to signal a new design direction for audis  SUV's and much of its looks can be seen in the Q1 . The Audi Q1 is yet another model that will make use of the Volkswagen groups light weight MQB modular-transversal architecture . There is a vast corporate parts been full of advanced electronics at Audi's disposal for this project , and while the Q1 will offer a lot of technology,  it won't pack everything  inglostadt has to offer ; a buffer equipment needs to be maintained between it and the Q3 .

The backbone of the Q1's powertrain will be turbocharged 1.4 litre four-cylinder mated to a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic . It will be supplemented by an available 1.4 litre TDI turbo-diesel . An SQ1 will follow , powered by a 230hp , 2.0 litre turbo four , and a plug-in hybrid is expected , too , using a 1.2 litre four-banger as its foundation . If the Q1 were to make it stateside , the gasoline and diesel-burning 1.4s would be the only powertrain available . Front-wheel drive will be standard , but the Quattro all-wheel drive will be option .

The 2016 Audi Q1 is expected to be revealed for European markets early in 2015 . A part from the Europe launch , the car Amy be launched in the US , although it doesn't appear to be a strong possibility . The expected base price is roughly around $25,000 , which after hitting the Indian shores will shoot up to Rs. 20-25 lakh , courtesy the taxes and duties . The Audi Q1 will rival Audi Q3 , BMW X1 , Mercedes-Benz GLA-class .

Audi R8C

  • Engine                              3.6litre V8 Turbo Charged Engine
  • Engine Displacement    3596cc
  • Power                              640bhp@6300rpm
  • Torque                             567 lb-ft@5750rpm
  • Gear Box                         Sequential 6 Speed Sports Gear Box
  • Tank Capacity                90 litres

The 1999 Audi R8C car revealed a new chapter in Audi's lengthy Nd successful history of motorsport . The R8C had a carbon fibre monocoque , and the entire body was likewise of lightweight but very strong Kevlar . Audi engaged the Italian specialist fondmetal as its technology partner for the aerodynamics , which are vitally important in le mans . The chassis of the R8C was developed in conjunction with Audi's British subsidiary RTN (racing technology norfolk) based at hingham near Norwich .

The Audi R8C made its first and only race appearance at le mans in 1999 . Unveiled only three weeks before qualifying , designed by Tony Southgate , it is surely one of the most beautiful racing car ever seen at le mans . It featured a carbon fibre body , a 3600cc turbo powered engine , and a 6-speed sequential gear box .

The R8C use the 600hp (450kw) 3.6 litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine , but are radically different aerodynamically . Most of the intakes and air exits on the R8C are placed on the sides . The R8C also has thinner wheel arches , partially due to LMGTP rules , at that time , that stipulate the LMGTP cars us thinner tyres than the LMP cars in order to off-set the better aerodynamic efficiency,  and thus higher top speeds , of the LMGTP  cars . Additionally,  using a styling feature borrowed from the Toyota GT-one , the inside of the front wheel arches of the R8C are open , so that air does not build up in the wheel wells , andto benefit brake cooling . Like nost , if not all other LMGTP's of the time , the cockpit is long , gradually sloping to maximize aerodynamic efficiency . Unequally though , the minimum roof height was achieved with the use of raised humps above the drivers position  , so that there is a trough down the centre  of the roof to allow for more air to reach the rear wing  . The rear of the car features a boxy , blunt tail that was developed from the improved R8R , however,  it is longer in order to better maximize the R8C's aerodynamics .

In June 1999 , audi scored impressive results on the German manufacturers debut at le mans . The two Audi R8R's finished third and fourth . Audi's chief executive , Dr Franz- Josef paefgen , remarked : " this result is better than we expected and we will be back next year " . Seldom before had there been a le mans 24 hour race . So strong in manufacturer support and constantly exciting.  Only half of the 46 cars which started reached the finishing line after almost 5000km and watched by a crowd in excess of 200,000 . Audi's head of sport , Dr Wolfgang Ulrich , was delighted the "open" Audi R8R's haf stood up to the challenge . He said: " for a le mans newcomer this is a very good result " .

Confirming Audi's impressive maiden le mans performance was the similar R8R of Michelle alboreto / Rinaldo Capello/ Laurent Aiello in fourth place . The Audi R8C's did not finish the race due to transmission problems . But the sleek silver machines , were still able to show their potential with some fast race laps . Gearbox problems restricted both cars to a small number of laps in official qualifying on Wednesday and Thursday evening . The R8C of Andy Wallace , James weaver and Perry McCarthy lined-up in 20th on Saturday afternoon with the similar Audi of Stefan Johansson , stephane ortelli and Christian abt  in 23rd . But in the race , the Wallace / weaver / McCarthy  car soon encountered gearbox problems necessitating the first three gearbox changes restricting their progress to a highest wend position before at retired With eight hours remaining  . The " sister " R8C managed 19th  place before a gearbox fault side-lined the car out on the 13km track after four hours .

AUDI Q7

  • Engine                             3.0-litre V-Type Diesel Engine
  • Engine Displacement   2967cc
  • Power                              241.3bhp@3800-4400rpm
  • Torque                             550Nm@1750-2500rpm
  • Fuel Supply System       CRDI
  • Gear Box                         8 Speed
  • Top Speed                      133mph/215kmph
  • Acceleration                   7.8 seconds

The Audi Q7 has all what it takes to becomes a really great luxury SUV including spaciousness , power , design , quality interiors and features . Yes the Audi Q7 seems to be all excess anc probably the reason why many look at SUV's with a jaundiced eye yet are not averse to secretly lusting for one themselves . However , the cars like Q7 are at the cutting edge of the automotive business and this edge has been further sharpened to cut many a nay sayer to size . The latest iteration of the Q7 proves this in some measure . It has the same large 2967 cc DOHC 24-valve turbocharge V6 engine for India but it is now not just more powerful and torquey but it is also even more cleaner and has better fuel efficiencyto deny SUV-bashers a leg to trample on it , that is if they are brave enough to stand in front of this butch beauty .

When you will look at it , you will notice that the second-gen Q7  looks smaller than its predecessor.  To be precise its a 370mm shorter in length and 15mm narrower too , but the height is still the same . The new Q7 has less visual mass than before . Skinning is tight , the pronounced feeders add muscle and there are crisp clean lines everywhere  , but that imposing presence of the old Q7 is missing here . Viewed from rear , it looks more like a station wagon , than big , burly wagon . The Q7 shares a number of components with the Volkswagen toureg  and the Porsche cayenne. It offers seating for seven . It has dual front , side and side-curtain air bags are fitted as standard . Regardless of engine choice , the behemoths are limited to 130mph top speed . ABS and EBD-enhanced four-wheel ventilated disc brakes are also standard , though the prestige trim comes with upgraded brakes for maximum stopping power.

A mid-life tweak made the engines a little more parsimonious , with the start-stop equipped 3.0 TDI returning 39.2mpg average(in 204bhp) . For a car so chunky , that's not bad-but really its the only way to reasonable running costs in a Q7 . Audi's ditched the thirsty old petrol engines but the one non-By alternative , the 4.2 TDI V8 isn't much better than they were , at 30.7mpg . At least all Q7 are now decently equipped , with must-have leather and other exotic goodies are now standard . The torque is available between 1500 to 3000rpm . Audi claims that the Q7 can shoot from naught to 100kmph in 6.3 seconds .

The engine comes with a vaporization technology that let's the engine run at under 1000rpm when needed , by using very little fuel . Tech like this and a start-stop mechanism , along with the right savings and a drag coefficient of just 0.32 contribute to a claimed fuel economy of 17.5kmpl . The new Q7 is a massive step forward from the previous model . Faster , lighter , more agile , more spacious , prettier , slipperier , packed full of techno-wizardry : in every conceivable are the new car is a big , very big improvement.

AUDI S1 SPORTBACK

Audi S1 sports back is the relative baby of its S model line up and delivers stunning and accessible performance thanks to Quattro four-wheel drive and a 2.0 litre turbocharged four cylinder engine as well as all of the class and quality you would expect from Audi.  One of the main selling points of the Audi S1 is its four -wheel drive system - the latest version of technology with roots in Audi's eighties rallying program . Although this eats into boot space , the result is the only car in its class with the surefooted grip of four-wheel drive.

Thanks to its Volkswagen polo underpinnings, the Audi A1 is sensible , but not sensational, from behind the wheel . However , the S1 version swaps the torsion beam rear suspension of the standard car for a more sophisticated four-link set-up , while revised front geometry , strengthened mountings and a faster standard ratio highlight the flagships bespoke nature and give it an extra edge over the normal A1 on the road .

Part of that comes from the engine . Theres no ignoring the fact the 2.0 litre TFSI is the star of the show . It's mated to a light but suret 6-speed manual gear box , which involves you in the experience further . With 228 bhp , it sprints from 0-60 mph in just 5.8 seconds , and blasting off with the security of all wheel drive in a real hoot . It will continue charging hard on to a storming top speed of 155 mph.

From  a stand still the S1 can feel a little bit light at the front during flat out acceleration , but the hatch redeems itself when it comes to in-gear acceleration thanks to 370 Nm of torque . It means the S1 is very much at home on the motorway without without the usual noise that accompanies a hot hatch at higher speeds . Only bouncy ride let's it down.
