Audi is getting closer to introducing its smallest crossover ever in the form of the new Q1 . Expected to make its debut in 2016 , it would seem that Q1 will follow the trend set by the Q3 and draw inspirations from the brand's Q5 Mid-sizer . Proportionally , it doesn't look dramatically smaller than Q3 . The front overhang is similarly sized , although  there's a smallerrear overhang and a more aggressive rake to the rear window . The front windshield looks more aggressive too , and overall , the Q1 looks to sit lower to the ground than its big brother .

The Audi Q1 is designed to give Audi a lead in the fast growing small-crossover segment :" It is part of a broad Q-model strategy , " says CEO Rupert Stadler . Perhaps of more significance of the Q brand is what the Q1's design means for the future of Q models . The crosslane coupe's design was supposed to signal a new design direction for audis  SUV's and much of its looks can be seen in the Q1 . The Audi Q1 is yet another model that will make use of the Volkswagen groups light weight MQB modular-transversal architecture . There is a vast corporate parts been full of advanced electronics at Audi's disposal for this project , and while the Q1 will offer a lot of technology,  it won't pack everything  inglostadt has to offer ; a buffer equipment needs to be maintained between it and the Q3 .

The backbone of the Q1's powertrain will be turbocharged 1.4 litre four-cylinder mated to a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic . It will be supplemented by an available 1.4 litre TDI turbo-diesel . An SQ1 will follow , powered by a 230hp , 2.0 litre turbo four , and a plug-in hybrid is expected , too , using a 1.2 litre four-banger as its foundation . If the Q1 were to make it stateside , the gasoline and diesel-burning 1.4s would be the only powertrain available . Front-wheel drive will be standard , but the Quattro all-wheel drive will be option .

The 2016 Audi Q1 is expected to be revealed for European markets early in 2015 . A part from the Europe launch , the car Amy be launched in the US , although it doesn't appear to be a strong possibility . The expected base price is roughly around $25,000 , which after hitting the Indian shores will shoot up to Rs. 20-25 lakh , courtesy the taxes and duties . The Audi Q1 will rival Audi Q3 , BMW X1 , Mercedes-Benz GLA-class .
